Steve Astorino is the Vice President of Development for the IBM Data and AI organization and leads a global team of several thousand employees. The expansive Data and AI portfolio under his leadership includes the strategic IBM Cloud Pak for Data, the Forrester Wave leading Enterprise Insight Platform. IBM Cloud Pak for Data is a fully-integrated data and AI platform that modernizes how businesses collect, organize, and analyze data, and infuse AI throughout their organizations.

Steve also leads the IBM Canada Lab, the largest software development organization in the country. The IBM Canada Lab supports development of core IBM technologies and worldwide strategic missions including Data and AI, Security, Cloud and Cognitive, Supply Chain, IT infrastructure, and Internet of Things.

Widely recognized for his expertise in leading large enterprise development teams, Steve is a change agent, constantly driving improvements and efficiency in how technology is used. He combines deep technical knowledge with a business lens to support clients as they work through their next chapter in digital reinvention and transformation journeys. In 2019, he co-authored Artificial Intelligence Evolution and Revolution.

Steve’s Data and AI development organization and the IBM Canada Lab have been integral to a number of IBM’s crucial efforts to address the COVID-19 pandemic. His teams built and deployed an IBM Cognos Analytics dashboard to show statistics on COVID-19, such as rate of global spread, and spread over time with divisions by country and region. Most recently, IBM and the City of Markham have partnered to provide residents on-demand information about COVID-19 through the AI-driven virtual agent “IBM Watson Assistant for Citizens”.
