Chief Information Officer
Pacific Northwest National Lab
Brian Abrahamson is an Associate Laboratory Director & the Chief Information Officer for PNNL, leading a talented team of professionals that span Communications & Public Affairs, Information Technology, Research Computing and Cyber Security.
He is responsible for setting and implementing a cohesive strategy to amplify the visibility of PNNL’s research – ensuring that all audiences, internal and external, understand the Lab’s mission and how our science transforms the world. The convergence of Communications and Information Technology at PNNL recognizes that as the world moves online, the laboratory must be increasingly savvy in how we engage our stakeholders and manage our brand through digital channels.
Brian also has the privilege of leading a diverse team of computing and technology professionals. This team has a clear mandate to leverage human-centered design to re-imagine how digital technologies can improve the research experience, enable data-driven insights for decision makers, enhance the efficiency of getting work done at the laboratory, and accelerate PNNL’s scientific discovery with advanced computational testbeds and resources.
Having previously served as the CIO for San Francisco-based Pacific Gas and Electric Company, one of the nation’s largest investor-owned utilities, Brian returned to his home state of Washington in 2011 to join PNNL. Prior to PG&E he spent over 10 years with Accenture, a management consulting organization, where he worked with technology and business leaders at over a dozen Fortune 250 companies to transform business operating models and lead digital transformation efforts.
